Comparison of the effect of ginger and aloe vera mouthwashes on xerostomia in patients with type 2 diabetes: A clinical trial, triple-blind

BACKGROUND Ginger and aloe vera are two medicinal herbs mostly used to produce mouthwash. This study aimed compare the effects of ginger mouthwashes on xerostomia in patients referred Bandar Abbas diabetes clinic (Iran). MATERIAL AND METHODS In this triple-blind clinical trial, three groups (n=35 each group) were studied. One group was given mouthwash, other control only normal saline. All 20 ccs times daily for 14 consecutive days. The symptoms severity measured before after intervention by questionnaire proposed Fox et al. as well VAS scale, respectively. Statistical analysis, including Shapiro-Wilk test measure normality variables, Chi-square McNemar scores al., also applied. Scores analyzed using a one-way ANOVA test. P<0.05 considered statistically significant all these tests. RESULTS mean age participants included saline 58.13±14.75 years old, 54.14±9.35 old group, 53.37±11.57 group. The difference between performing (The amount reduction xerostomia) 6.12±2.004 cm, it 4.08±2.09 2.45±2.09 cm. Finally, significantly reduced related xerostomia, respectively(p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS use mouthwash is an effective reduce under chronic conditions. Aloe vera, ginger, known controlling complication. According results study, could decrease promote oral health with diabetes.
